Post anatomy, overpowered?
if memory serves, at least in the printed werson i have played, the prerequsites have been removed. only incentive given is credit.

so in the games i have played I (and some others) have ALWAYS gone for anatomy 1st, if you are lucky you can get it in turn 6-7 (your 1st tech) and with the free techs this gives you you have a flying start with 3-4 techs, no drawbacks, and soon immune to epidemic. and you will also have gotten some credits in the other tech-colors.

=> the players able to get a tradeserries that will give them anatomy takes a massive lead, even from early on. i think one at least should have bougth medicein before one can get anatomy

Funny thing is, we always thought Anatomy to be useless for its free cards since we usually have all other cheap sciences before being abled to buy it.

We started playtesting this:

Anatomy
Change the first attribute to: 'Upon Purchase, you may immediately acquire up to two (dual-)science cards with a face value of less than 100 points each or one (dual-)science card with a face value of less than 200 points).'

Maybe we all underrated it.
Actually we never really bought it. Only for the points somewhere late in the game.

time for some discussion.

I like to play with as many different players as possible because some behaviours grow in a group that always play together. (as goes in any game). In the north of our country our group plays more aggressive than a certain group of players in the south of our country for example.

Historically that isn't true. though the interest in health led from medicine to understanding the human body.

Besides that prerequisites have been removed intentionally for better and more variable strategies to play.

if i remember correctly, the verson we play has anatomy giving you 2 green techs

just think about it, with this tech you will have 30 discount on green techs, and you will be able to buy the rest of the green techs that cost under 100 cheaply. and a few turns later you will get medicine for about 60-80. and now you will have about 70-100 discount on science. + some nice discounts on other techlines as an added bonus. last time i played anatomy got every green tech (that was less than 200), and most of them cost my about 1/2 to 1/3.

with the different pointcalculations you will get about 400-440 ptos from buying anatomy or 5 (or 6 with new metode) from the start.

I think anatomy is very powerful if you go fro the maximize credits stratigy in a peaceful game

Yes, but you regard anatomy as a card to buy immediately

No-one I know has ever done that.

the route I see it is:

first you buy empiricism and Written record (and maybe astronavigation)
then you buy Medicine

This gives you 30 greens and choosing in WR for green makes it 35 old style and 40 new style (see playtests Wotw)

This makes anatomy 230 and still a very expensive card.
When you buy it, you get to choose between Astronavigation and Coinage

You might not even want coinage for its corruption drawback

This is the reason players I know rarely consider buying Anatomy

for myself the soon I get to spend 230 point in a single turn I'd rather buy Monotheism, Politics or Philosophy or a combination of Agriculture and Architecture or Engineering.

Anyone? else?

The basic question is, whether or not it's a good idea to buy Anatomy early. I did that in our previous game, but didn't get around to buying it in the most recent game. It was nice, of course, to be able to pick up Coinage and Astronavigation for free, and it gave me a strong position with the green cards, but it caused me to lag behind with the other colors.

So I considered that while Anatomy would be an attractive card in itself, buying it early would strongly direct your strategy towards the green cards, and buying it late would often make you miss out on the benefits because you would already own the cards you could have gotten for free.
I rather like the change we playtested - in my opinion it doesn't really make Anatomy a stronger card, just a more versatile one, so it doesn't upset the balance of the game in that respect.
