Indeed these four cards look alike very much.

I bet, wax cannot be colour-changed, as wax just looks like this.
Papyri can change. I made this one a little lighter, and comparing it to marble and ivory. The texture really makes the difference in this.

ImageImage Image

Flax can be made a little darker and a little greener too.
Comparing this to oil, the texture makes difference. maybe oil can change some little colour. Or even change thetext from black to white

ImageImageImageImage

All this will not be the best option for each card itself, but when you HAVE TO maek a difference some consessions are to be made i guess.

I've made two new options for glass and wool.

for glass, I removed the highlights and added a crack. otherwise it'll only be a gradient.

Image

For the wool I made softer tint. blurring or removing detail would only worsen it.

Regarding amber:
I know we don't trade a colour, nor girls (though it has been suggested), but there is a reason the colour is called amber (because the colour of amber is amber), which is why a gradient would do. But if you like my other suggestion, we'll just go with that and the rest of the discussion is moot.

As for pearls, I'd also prefer if it wasn't just a gradient, but I'll not make it the only card with a photo of individual items. So unless you come up with something else, we only have those two options, of which I prefer the current but could go with either.

Regarding bone, I like your no 5. No 2 would do too.
Image Image

Your third grain is great. It's a bit too close to the current oil and flax proposals, but if we are to change those anyway. I think it's far enough from Ochre and Wax, but if not, your no 1 is OK too, and it's defenitely far enough from everything else.
Image Image

I'm not overly font of the screamingly bright colours of your new Ceramics and Spice, but I think it's the price we have to pay for having 51 distinct cards...

I like your new Resin, but I think it should have a black foreground...

I think you overdid the bleaching of the Papyri a bit, but otherwise it's fine.

Then over to flax and oil. The first oil you list (my first proposal above) is too close to your new proposed flax (but far enough from the yellow cards). And the second and third ones are too dark and brownish for my taste.

However, I don't quite like the use of linseeds for flax (even though I know linseeds are the seeds of flax). So perhaps changing that one instead would be better. I've thought about it, and perhaps flax yarn could do?

For Jade, I removed the dark sport and some of the pink.

For Dye,I removed the highlight and some of the pink-purple

Ok let's go for these ones for grain and bone:
Image
Image

I created the black letters on resin, but i made the texture a littel brighter so that the digits are easier to read.

Image

I like youre new flax, but, it'll have to be a highres ofcourse. Maybe it'll inflict with bone, or ivory.

The lightness of papyri, is needed to be distinct, as you said, the price to be paid.

Regarding glass, I think I prefer it without a crack (broken goods), even though it leaves just a gradient. But then I'm not as opposed to gradients as you are...

As for Wool, your image is much better now, but I'm still not entirely convinced. Should perhaps revisit my old proposal?
Image

New Jade and Dye looks great!

Bone & Grain: OK.

Resin: Looks good.

Flax: Yes, yet again it's a 2:3 upscale, couldn't find anything useful with higher resolution. If you do, please use that instead.

Papyri: Perhaps so, but perhaps something in between would still be distinct enough. Don't know for sure though...

I removed some yellow spots from ceramics. this way it keeps the orange, but looks less screaming.

Glass, As i mentioned, i'm opposed to simply a gradient. that's why I added a crack. I don't believe glass at the time was this strong that it never was traded with a crack. besided, it's a good way to indicate glass.

Wool: your version is fine.

What about this papyri:

I also created a browner version of sugar.

About the pearly question. I hate nr. 1, so let's settle for nr. 2

Flax?

Ceramics: Looks good to me

Glass: Crack works for me, though isn't imho optimal.

Papyri: Looks great (or as great it can be without being yellow and clashing with other cards).

Sugar: Looks great, much prefer the brown version over the grey!

Pearl: OK, no 2 it is then.

Flax: Looks great!!!!

Originally I chose for option 1: but looking at all the cards, this grain kinda seemed to not fit. So I tried option 2, but the colours look to much like ochre and so. So I tried the colour of nr 1 on texture nr 2. and got number 3.

ImageImageImage

Looking closely at the new wool card, I think the resolution is a bit low.
I've been looknig for some more wool and came to this:

What do you think?

Your new Grain looks great.

Your new Wool is imho not as good as mine would have been with proper resolution, but as mine don't have that, I guess yours is better.

I've also made another colour check with the all new cards.

The most glaring colour problem is still Wax - Ochre - Oil.
It's easy to break out oil from the trio by replacing Oil4 with either Oil1 or Oil 2.
Image Image Image
The texture of Wax and Ochre is quite distinct, but both are week enough that you might miss it. Not sure what to do, or even if something has to be done...
Image Image

Other colour problems I've found is:
Grain vs. Resin
Quite similar colours and weak texture
Image Image

Salt vs Tin and Hides vs Coper
Not really a problem when you put the cards next to each other, but upper left corner is close enough that it might be a problem when you hold the deck in your hand. Don't know if this is something to care about though...

I totally agree

For Oil, your option 3 is best option i think, cause that colour is unique.

I'm printing the cards this weekend (one test of 1 card each) and laminate em to see how it work.

You're right with the upper corners to easily look alike.

The wax-ochre problem can only be solved by making the texture more visable, this makes it a bit more photo-realistic, but the colours cannot be changed as both wax and ochre are these colours (especially ochre)

I've printed 1 of each (including the new wax) and this is what I've found out.

Purely the west set has no real problems, the texture makes the difference (along with the colour of the numbers

together though, these cards are too similar:

I'm trying to seek the problem more in the textures, rather than colour.
Stone could be a little darker, incense a little more powder-like, lacquer more lines, silk some shinier, and pearls could ue some more pink.

Eventhough I was almost happy with all cards seperately, we should change some, only to keep them apart.

Here's what I came up with.

For stone, as long as there was only 1 black card (obsidian), I got a little closer to that, also changing to white letters, should make the difference.
ImageImage

Copper: I turned the texture 180 degrees so that the gradient is better visable in the left upper corner. this should do it.
ImageImage

Incense got a little more contrast, so that it looks a little brighter, darker and some more texture.
ImageImage

I did not change wine, but gave lacquer more contrast. I found a new image for silk. Actually we could give it any colour, but as red is hardly used, I kept that.
ImageImageImage

I added the photo of nacre to pearls, but blur-removed the shiny spots. This way it got the little pink back that should make the difference.

I've printed the new few cards and checked em with the rest.
I'm pretty happy with the result.

As no one complains I suggest to keep the cards this way.
I'll put em up again all in one post.
