I don't like the bronze, but all the other cards are much better than the current ones, though the silver is perhaps a touch to white. If you mail me the background images I'll update the template I'm working on when I get back to it (hopefully within a week or two).

Yeah, I think the silver needs a bit more contrast than with the white backgound.

I thought the Silver was the best of them. I am actually all for low contrast and thing some of the changes are too busy. On the other hand, I haven't done anything for this game other than GM, so, who am I to criticise art :)

I didn't mean I wanted morre contrast, the constrast is imho good. Rather I didn't want the backround to be so very white, but a bit more "silverly" (eg gray).

I agree, that's my problem with the bronze card.

I wouldn't say you only GM, you GM and give good advice. Usually very good advice!

I have now taken a look at all your suggestions, and over all I like them.

However, I do have some comments on some of them:
Fruit: The two apples is a bit to strong, while on the pear only the stem (right word? the black part) is visible at all unless you look realy hard. Still better than the current card though.
Stone: No problems with the image, only the subject of its depicting. Bricks is an invention from late middle ages, far later than the time period of the game. More iregularites, like in an old city wall, would be better, or just depicting a pile of natural stone.
Gold: Looks slightly to much like coins. Imho there no problems with the old card, so we could use the it.
Silver: Great, but slightly to much white and to little silver (eg gray).
Lead: Perfect.
Copper: Perfect.
Salt: Something strange at bottom and top of imgage (some parts gray, dosn't look great), otherwise perfect.
Suggar: Good, but slightly to close to the new Salt. Also I don't like the "oil painted" look of it, especially not in the lower left corner, where it is plain, uggly, gray streaks in it. As I have no problems with the old suggar we could continue to use that.
Grain: Perfect.
Livestock: Looks slighty to much like the old (but not new) grain. Still don't see how it depicts Livestock (though the current one doesn't relly either). Perhaps we need jet another idea.
Tea: Good, But looks slightly to much like a photograf. Perhaps your first tea, but "grener", or your second tea, but dimmer.
Insense: Like the old one much better, the new one is to clinical. See no problems with the old one either, so why change it?
Jade: Like the olde one much better, the new one looks to neon gren. See no problems with the old one either, so why change it?
Bronze: Your second is better than your first, but I still don't like the idea of a pure picture, without making it part of the background. What's the problem with the current bronze btw?
Fish: OK.
Wine: To light, I'd like it to be just short of maroon (a color called "winered" in Swedish...). So your card, but with the old color, would be perfect.
Tin: Slightly to silvery in color. Slighty darker would be better. Though I don't have any problems with the current card, so imho we could keep it.

Incidentally, the commodity list I intend to use for Mesoamerica is

Clay
Stone
Salt
Cacao
Rubber
Silver
Jade
Obsidian
Gold

We already have cards for all of these except Cacao and Rubber, so that will make that bit easier :)

One commodity that I would add (or swap for salt) would be Maize (corn). Mesoamerica was responsible for bringing it to the world and their agriculture was based on as early as 6000 BC. I especially like the idea of using as many different trade cards as possible than original Civ to diversify your version. Keeping Gold, tho seems a nice touch, as it is universally desired by all.

I agree that Maize was important (central to the Mayan culture), but as far as I can tell in my readings, salt was more commonly traded. Which is one fun advantage. We have good evidence of most of these goods being traded across the space depicted. The strange rounded rocks of CR being found as far north as Mexico and down to Orinoco, cacao started south, rubber trees (olmec meant "rubber people") so everybody could play their favorite ball game, jade, and on and on.

I had to be careful with the metals, since they really didn't get them figured out in the time span of the game. Which reminds me, I probably ought to change Metalworking out for something else. Hmmm.

Unforutnatly it looks like I didn't keep the PSD's for those images  . So no changes. I'll post a link to the zipped version of the gifs though so we can pull what we want out.

I am playing "Puerto Rico" and "San Juan" by Seyfarth. There are: Corn, Indigo, Sugar, Tobacco, Coffee and Silver.

Just to "steal" some commodities from other games :D

Not a good idea, as we try to make civproject more legal, to be able to, in some future, actually release it...
