Trade Cards

I've got high res images of all my trade cards (minus the calamities) zipped up if you're interested, Velusion. I haven't got space to host them so if you've got an ftp site... or I could email them piecemeal. (zipped file is 14.2MB)

Thanks Daryl, they look great! Just curious... do you have the PSDs (or sourcefiles) for these? I was debateing modifying the amount of cards for each set...

Not sure if I need to though...

Actually... I don't think I'll need em after all. I think the totals will work fine as you have them...

Hey Daryl, Do you know the font you used for the words on these cards?

Here is what I am using:
Clay (1), Stone (2), Fish (3), Wool (4), Glass (5), Tin (6), Olive Oil (7), Tea (8), Silk (9). I modified a few for totals equal to the lowest original set (rather than one less than the lowest as previous). I only changed maybe two cards.

I do want to change Tea to Incense however.

Also, I'm not sure I want to use Olive Oil (because there is already an Oil card) Also Herbs don't really strike me as something that you hear traded alot. Any other suggestions what might work for that? Perhaps Tea would fit in well...

Yeah, I used Maiandra GD.

If it were up to me.... I'd use Marble for 8 (since that was my favorite card) and use Incense for 7.

Like this: http://home.attbi.com/~dcluciano/Incense.bmp

I went with Olive Oil because it was a fairly well traded commodity in both Greece and Rome (at least from what I could find). Both Tea and Silk would be products of the Silk Road trade route... and since the Eastern part of the map incorporates a good deal of the Silk Road, I felt it was appropriate. I agree that Herbs was kind of a stretch... while they certainly were traded, and valued... it's just not that interesting a card.

Marble is a great looking card... I'll probably do that...

You are completely right about Olive Oil being very tradable, but I just assumed that Oil covered it.

I always thought of the Oil card as being oil for burning.

Thanks for the cards Daryl! I'm sure everyone else will like em as well. Oh... I changed the background of tin (to seperate it a little better from Silver). Let me know if that looks cool. Also... could you easily modify the numbers on the Marble card to let them only have 4 cards rather than 5? I'm trying to keep the same number (equal to the already lowest set). If not I can try and change it.

Otherwise I just pretty much followed all of your suggestions.

I don't know if you'd want any more trade cards, but just incase you do, or want to change any, I've got a few suggestions.

(2)Sheep (3)Figs (4)Honey (5)Cattle (8)Wax

This is incomplete, obviously, and I'm not sure if the numbers would really be accurate, but you get the idea.

Are there any more trade cards for download, like Flax, furs, fruit, cotton livestock, copper, herbs, tea and pearls, as described in the rulebook ?

If not, when are we going to see them ?

I second Kruppman's question. I would also like to know where the other commodities may be accessible.
I must say, with regard to new commodities, it does not seem feasible that things such as fish and fruit would really have been traded in the ancient day; There was no Fed-Ex delivery; everything was either shipped or sent via caravan, taking weeks or sometimes months to arrive at a potentially distant destination in another civilization. Without suitable packing materials or refrigeration, fish and other such perishables would not survive the journey well preserved. Additionally, I don't think glass existed at that time either; they didn't possess the technology to shape silicon subsequently and blow glass at super-heated temperatures; hence the Pharos (Great Lighthouse) of Alexandria used a large curved sheet of metal to reflect sunlight. Did tin exist as a usable commodity back then?
I suggest replacing such implausible trade goods with things like sugar or coffee beans. To DLuciano - I think the original oil as the 4th commodity in the Advanced Civ set of cards was supposed to be a fragrant oil - an expensive perfume that was used to anoint the wealthy as a luxury. But then, it would seem more appropriately placed at the higher end of the commodity "spectrum". Maybe you were correct - they could have meant lamp oil, in which case perfume should be added as a 7 or 8, close to its kin, spice and incense. Maybe it could replace herbs, if you still weren't comfortable with that commodity; or you could replace glass with perfume, since it seems to be of similar luxurious quality to wine (both glass and wine are 5's) Just some suggestions.
Velusion, I love the marble and silk graphics.. very nice.
