Last weekend (yeah, I'm a bit late with this report) I had a playtest at LinCon. Unfortunately it didn't go very well. I was supposed to play two games, one 6h shortened game on sunday and a 13h full-length game at monday. Unfortunately, though I hade some applications, only 3 players showed for the full-length game. As that wasn't enough we discussed the game and wrote a scenario instead (more on that later).
Anyway, the 6h game ended after 9 turns, noone having purchased any 200+ cards. We was 10 players playing on the western part of the map. We had three completely new players (Hellas, Carthage and Minoa) and one player who had only played the original Civilization (Celts). Only me (Iberia) and Martin (Hatti) had played CivProject, the rest was AdvCiv players.
End game statistics follows:
| Civilization | Player | AST | CivCards | Cities | VP | Tiebreaker |
|---|
| Assyria | Roger Edholm | 45 | 26 | 6 | 77 | 32 |
| Babylon | Filip Wiltgren | 45 | 20 | 7 | 72 | 3 |
| Hatti | Martin Broden | 40 | 14 | 7 | 61 | 0 |
| Celts | Christian Naesseth | 45 | 8 | 4 | 57 | 19 |
| Rome | Erik Rosendal | 45 | 8 | 3 | 56 | 26 |
| Carthage | Albin Olsenmyr | 40 | 8 | 4 | 52 | 3 |
| Minoa | Erik Rosendal | 40 | 4 | 6 | 50 | 19 |
| Iberia | Jon Severinsson | 35 | 10 | 2 | 47 | 6 |
| Egypt | Andreas Hallqvist | 35 | 8 | 2 | 45 | 0 |
| Hellas | Dennis Hägglund | 35 | 2 | 5 | 42 | 23 |
Based on this game I can draw the following conclusions:
Assyria and Babylon is owerpowered, as they have been since day one of Civilization, 1981.
The Celts is fairly good, as a beginner (though a strategically minded one) can make them upper half.
We didn't care for the completely new players enough, letting them fall far behind. This is probably due to me both playing and GMing, and thus not having enough time. However, playing is far to fun not to, so this problem is likey to remain.
Eventhough I've just won both a CivProjcet game (A Dos Metro, a PBEM where I won with 7 points over Velusion) and one AdvCiv game (a trial board for the Swedish Championship), I'm still not a good civ player, just an stubborn one that never gives up. (Note: I got 7th place out of 8 in the championship finale)
I'm blind. I didn't even recognice Martin until I read the roaster after the game had ended and most everyone but me had left the room...
