Using IE 6.0 with "medium" privacy settings, IE blocks the cookie that the forum tries to store on my computer in order to "remember" my login. This happens when I try to access the site using the
http://civproject.net/ address. It is blocked because the cookie is stored from address
http://67.66.187.69/, which is not matching the civproject.net address in the address bar.
Firefox, however, allows it because
http://civproject.net/ is just a "layer" atop the real address of
http://67.66.187.69/.
So I guess the browsers just have a different default security/privacy policy on what cookies to count as "foreign address cookies", and thus what cookies to block.
IF this is the same problem that you're experiencing, it can be fixed by:
1. Accessing this site by URL
http://67.66.187.69/civproject/ instead of
http://civproject.net/ while using IE (i.e.
http://67.66.187.69/civproject/ must actually appear in the address bar).
2. Adding 67.66.187.69 to your "always allow cookies from this host" list in IE (for example by clicking the small "cookie blocked"-icon (the eye with the stop sign in the lower right corner) after trying to log in, then clicking "Settings...", then "Sites...", then add it).
3. Reducing your privacy slider setting in the Internet Options of IE, so that it allows the forum's cookies.
4. Use Firefox?
