I'm hoping I might ask. I was wondering, since my copy of Adv. Civ. is in storage, does anyone recall the trade city variant cities? If I recall correctly:
Value Commodity City 1 Ochre Appolionia? 1 Hides 2 Iron* Ankara 2 Papyrus* Alexandria? 3 Salt Tripoli 3 Timber* Tyre? 4 Grain Tyras 4 Oil* Neapolis 5 Cloth Memphis? (I get those 2 confused) 5 Wine* 6 Bronze Salamis 6 Silver* New Carthage? 7 Spices* 7 Resin* Byzantium 8 Gems* Nineveh? 8 Dye* Tyre? 9 Gold* Antioch 9 Ivory* Carthage
Also, have you tested any othe additional commodities? Silk etc..

Hmmm don't know aobut the trade cities. Can anyone else help out?
People here have tested the new commodities and they work well. The minor calamities have gotten a mixed review. It's either minor calamities or blank cards though.
The extra commodity cards are recommended with 8 or more players. With more than 13 players I'm going to recommend another set... but we have a little while until then.

Thank you McBeth. This is indeed what I was looking for. I thought Greece looked odd with Corinth missing a city. The map is still too beautiful not to use though. Looks like next time we play, Athens is going into the Wine biz

Once the last set of commodity cards comes out if you guys want to reseach which commodity should originate from which city I'll update the map with the list you give me (maybe we can find some good graphics for it eh?)

Hi all I think the trade city variant appeared in the spanish magazine Alea, there are some sugestions about wich cities should have wich comodity, because depending the map you were using to play somo trade cities could appear and some don't, if any is interested I can email the full list with all cities for each trade card
happy civing to all
LOOKING VERY BADLY FOR SPANISH PLAYERS

I thought the trade varient was actually published in the Advanced Civ manual by Avalon Hill? Alea might have provided for the eastern expansion they have done (and from which this project is partiatlly based off of. Still I would be in favor of reassigning the cities from scratch... ibzdave wrote: Hi all I think the trade city variant appeared in the spanish magazine Alea, there are some sugestions about wich cities should have wich comodity, because depending the map you were using to play somo trade cities could appear and some don't, if any is interested I can email the full list with all cities for each trade card

The trade city variant is definitely in the Avalon Hill rule book. They talked about mostly historical locations with some modifications for "balance" It'd be an interesting research project. I'd guess that the levant would become even more important

I don't like the trade city variant... it means you are aimed at collecting the same one or two commodity sets every turn.

Well that is the fun of it, but I tell you is not as much as it seems; as you play with more players, each one gets one or (if lucky) two cities and that does not let you just go for one type of card try it

FYI the Trade City variant at Redscape has a mistake. The GM accidentally placed Papyrus in Fayum. According to Avalon Hill's rules it should be in Memphis.

As I don't use that varient I couldn't begin to speculate. I'll leave that up to any posters here who want a side project. Let me know if you come up with a preliminary list and I'll post it.

I've made myself a new map with the trade cities printed on em.
Maybe you can adjust the map here and put the names on too. Then print.
I haven't made a version containg all new stuff like amber and silk. I think it even won't work. 18 different commodities are enough for a small map like the original
