Post CivProject at BBGCon!
Pending the approval of the Boardgame Geek admins I plan on hosting the Civproject game at the BoardGame Geek Con 2006! This is a great laid back con - I had a blast last year as did everyone I know who went.

This will be a friendly game with secret prizes (again pending BBG admin approval) taking up an entire day of the Con (hopefully Friday) starting at 8am.

Reserve a Spot:
If you want to reserve your spot in the game early, even though we don't have all the details/permissions ironed out yet, please send me an email (no need to post here) with the BBGcon Civproject in the title along with your name & where you are coming from.

Prizes:
The prizes will remain secret until the end of the game as I want this to be a friendly game. There will be three prizes. First place will get first pick of the three. The other two will be awarded via a simple lottery system based on the player's end score of the game (therefore it's always in your best interest to play well and not "give up". Out of those two players who ever has the highest score picks first. Players who are not there when the prizes are awared at the end of the game are not eligable. And yes, the prizes are worth something. Hint: They are boardgames!

Running the Game:
I have one tentative co-GM. If it looks like we will have 14-18 players I will be open to having another GM to help me run the game. Remember - running the game means you are not playing and are not eligable for prizes :). If you are interesting in being the backup or secondary GM let me know via email (not here).

Civ cards will not be used - rather we will have a large master whiteboard (or projector) that will display every advance that everyone has.

No-shows:
If you have reserved a spot and can't make, please let me know - even if its just the night before. Just leave me a voicemail or shoot me an email - whatever - i'll be very grateful. However - people who reserve a spot and then simply don't show up (for whatever reason) piss me the hell off and won't be allowed in any other event I run, will be banned from posting here on the forums, and will be beaten with a large stick of melting butter.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here.

Well I can tell you about Persia an the west side of the board.

We started playing about 11:30 AM because the Flea Market got in the way with the start time (my fault I was selling lots). We had 9 players seen in the post above.

As Persia I had Babylon on the west, Parthia on the North, Indus on the east, and Saba on the south.

The game was great and ended about 1:00 Amish

I have played AH Civ games since the late 80's and I have loved everyone. I loved this game to. I have seen my share of calamities but I have never seen the wealth of them land on the civilization that I played until I was in this game. I admit one or two calamities I got because I was greedy late in the trade turn.

The first calamity I got was not bad but was a vision of the future I got earthquake. I shook down a city next to Babylon.

Pathia to my north got the first Civil War. I the lucky recipient of a whole 7 units; one city and two men.

Then all hell broke loose.

I got a barbarian hoards which took out my northern Arabian Penn. Colonies.

I earned the second Civil War about two turns later (people were hording 4 cards). I gave up a large chunk of my county to Indus (at least two cities and 6-8 men I think); Indus had been hit by flood the turn before and was hit over and over again with flood. I think at least three times).

The very next turn (due to my greed) Indus handed me Iconoclasm and heresy and reduced my civ to one city but lots of people.

I pooped back up to six but got Piracy that I could NOT trade away no matter what I did. Someone handed me famine for 8points so I reduced four cities so that I did not have any cities on the coast.

Indus then got a civil war and handed me a city and about 10 men.

I came back to be hit by treachery. Where Indus took most of my eastern colonies and I never got back to more that 5-6 cities.

Most of the game I worked to get back to 5 -6 cities and rarely had the money for a gold card even though I got coinage early. My stock was constantly being used to build cites and expansion than my civilization balancing out a little. Later I was hit with a second Piracy, three earthquakes (all together) and those are the ones I remember. I collected MANY calamites instead of trade cards so I rarely matched anything in my hand on the draw.

The last trade of the game was my most notable I turned in full sets of Lacquer and Cotton for 350+ points. That was sweet. I earned 9 cards that turn and pushed me to 6th (he got the lower rankings wrong in the post above).

Indus was hit over and again with flood and Civil war.

Maryua was hit by at least two cyclones but was on the far side of the board I did not keep account of what calamites that side of the board did.

Other notables:

Babylon is a lying group of Thugs who rarely but occasionally showed a shred of decency. He stole my 5 city site on the Arabian Penn. and never gave it back. However he did give up a city site on his coast for one turn (so that I could escape by boat up my coast to repopulate a few spaces that had been emptied by Civil war and a concerted Exodus to an Indus Twelve city). I asked nicely at first and he was on the fence. Then I showed him I had 5 guys with no place to go but Babylon and then he vacated the spot for one turn.

Pathia - was hit often by different players and perceived as a leader early but he was not.

Saba - had a peaceful existence and never really got slammed by the calamities. He was consistently in the 8 -9 city range most of the game.

Game fau pax's

1: Kush - do to a lack of understanding the new rules used duel credits on the purchase of dual colored Civ cards. That is a non o in the new rules (I like this rule alot)

2: Furs Commodities (2) - was missing one commodity card and for two turns I tried to get a full set. I wasted a little time but it would not have changed the outcome much.

3: 2 Livestock cards were mistakenly placed under the 9 stack and went missing for about 2-3 times before they were relocated.

4: Dravidia - Dravidia got caught on the southern Indian continent and was too nice up front in giving city sites to Parthia and Indus and dug a hole that was hard for him to get out. He eventually sent colonist to Persia and took over some of our colonies on the Arabian penn. that the pirates and Barbarians had taken from our great Civilization.

All in ALL a great game and I now know how a nail feels because I was hammered over and over again.

I cannot wait until next year for another game.
