Exception rules? I'm not understanding the term?

The unaltered game does allow for play with less than five (though it typically isn't great play.) This expansion is more aimed for larger groups :)

I don't see why a game with 4 players shouldn't be possible with the expansion, but you will have to pick the area very carefully and the player - with my guess - just isn't going to be as good.

Maybe for 4, try Hitte, Crete, Illyria and Thrace. For 3, drop either Hitte or Thrace. For 2, forget it. Include enough land for 6 city sites per nation. Maybe at 3 & 4 the trade card mix needs to be tweaked as well. Maybe a single larger set?

I've got the original civilization, and in case of less players (2)the map is smaller and you play with more token plus only + mysticism card. Maybe i can reduce the area of play, but i don't know how much, I really like the new and improved rules and the civ/trade cards. I've downloaded and builded everything from this website (high quality) the result I had was a game which really seems out of a game box, but you can immagine my surprise when i read the manual and i find out that the game is playable from 5. Please can you you do something about it?

Moonknight - For five players the biggest change is that you need to limit the amount of areas which players can occupy. I would suggest simply picking an region of the map with only 5 civs and gathering your group together. Then discuss what area's should and shouldn't be in play.

Having never played before you will be at a disadvantage - but construct a concensus and THEN randomly assign empires.

Eventually there will be a scenerio book that will have suggestions on what should, shouldn't be in play with differnt regions and player group sizes.. but until then you have to make the best guess yourself.

Thanks, i think i got the idea, i would really like to play with a lot of people but is not an easy task to finding players, is actually impossible for me :( the most far i went was 4 players, but usually is a 3 or 2!
I will do something similar to the first civilization; is limited only to western countries and give to players more tokens, and on islands the cities squares will not be avaliable.

Anybody from north London?
