New desing for the Calamity Quick Chart
I never took any time before, to redesing the Calamity Quick Chart but now I will, and there are some things that can improve.
FOCUS:
The main focus should ofcourse be 'what does the calamity mean, and secondly: "Aggravated by / Reduced by" to quickly see, if a player has defense or cards aggravating it. But I want to look if we can impliment lines like 'one less city is reduced for each of these advances', just at a smaller font size in the boxes. Only if this can be added consistently, this is something to add, otherwise it should be left out.
ORDER:
If you regard this chart as a page out of the rulebook, indeed you sum up all calamities in stack order, including minors, but this chart should be as efficient as possible for use during gameplay, not for telling what the game including or indexing.
You could stack minors in between majors, but in practice, all minors are resolved before all other calamities, so there is no use to do this. It's only confusing, because you have to look through nine more boxes before you find your calamity, and have to flip the chart again and again.
If you place all minors at one side, and all majors on the other side, you can first deal with all minors and than flip the chart for doing the rest.
Whenever you don't play using the minors at all, you wouln't have to regard the other side at all.
(Ofcourse this is theory, We'll see if all majors will fit on one side reasonable.)
DESCRIPTION:
First we have to make a clear description of all calamities in the rulebook. I believe the way it's currently described is not optimal, but at least it's not consistent. Some calamities are described differently from other calamities. Only when we finish that, we can look how to simplify this the best way for the quick chart.
IMAGES:
I want to see if I can add the images for the calamties in the chart. Fact is that humans notice images so many time sooner than words, so it could become easier if you immediatley recognize an image, without even knowing the card's name. This might become handy for any in experienced player, or players that can't translate things like 'Iconoclasm and Heresy', but do know the image.
MARKING:
Graphic design also includes looking at how words are makred to make them more important than others. Like placing parts in bold or capital like I did in this post.
SECONDARY EFFECT:
In line with previous point, I want to add a clear mark that indicates a calamity has secondary victims. Now you can easy see which have and which don't
GENERAL LOOK:
An easy-to-print sheet doesn't mean it shouldn't look good. I will see if I can get this any better. To keep costs as low as possible it should stay black / white imho.
I wonder if any of you guys experience some more problems using the quick chart or like to see additions, or maybe removal of things.
