Post Want to play the remake, but can't find an original.
Hello,

While searching for good board games, I found this one. Now I'd like to play the game with a couple of friends, but I cannot find an original. How mandatory is an original game for not violating copyright rules?

Thanks.

Not sure why you would worry about copyright issues, the actual copyright holder would have to object to some sort of infringement, and unless you invite him over for a game, I don't see how he would ever know you are playing it. This game has all new artwork, and rules, it really is a seperate game. If they had no objections to Sid Meyer's Civilization then they probably don't care about this either.

You can incorporate the original game with the expansion if you want to save some money on game parts (I actually have one old 1st edition game I use for spare parts - it was destroyed at a frat party in the 80's). You could check eBay's listings for the game, but these have been getting expensive.

I sell a lot of the parts for this expansion game from my website:
http://www.ahgeneral.org/gameparts/civ.htm

Other board game material is located here:
http://www.ahgeneral.org/sale/forsale.htm

This is essentially a hand made game, some of the parts can take a week to print and cut - 18 player counter sets come to mind.

If you add all the parts up it can be an expensive game. A lot of the material you can download from this website and print yourself, it all depends on how good your paper craft is. Some people just can't cut a straight line, so cutting cards and counters is not an option for them. Anyone can print rules and checklists though.

all new artwork,

Craig, I want to remind you that the drawings I made are copyrighted by default.

I still have not made a good agreement with Jonno for allowing to use in this expansion. (which I'd like to make soon)

Untill that moment, you cannot use these. And I care.

It's good to see you don't sell cards with my drawings.

I was under the impression that, since your artwork for the calamities, is downloadable from this website, you had placed it in the Public Domain. If that is not the case then Jonno needs to make mention of that in the download area. I consider the 300dpi counter images I created to be in the Public Domain at this time, but I reserve the 600dpi artwork for my own publications. I have not updated my printed material for the Advancement cards yet, but was intending to do so in the coming months. Most people prefer to use the checklists and only need a couple sets of Advancement cards, but they are needed just the same. Are you saying that to use new artwork for these advancements I need to hire another artist?

I think its a little odd to place all this material on a website where it is freely downloadeable to anyone to use, and then later try to restrict its usage claiming copyright - either its presence on this site is Public Domain or it isn't, I think that issue needs to be more clearly addressed.

I think that the notion of taking this material to a publisher one day is absurd, no publisher is going to touch this material - even if all the artwork is original. This expansion game needs to be open source Public Domain, otherwise AH will eventually object to it.

It's just that I asked Jonno to remove my material or at least mention my name.

He only sais he's busy but hasn't done either.

I'm trying to make a deal but he has refused to stay in contact. Until that moment I just don't allow my drawings to be used, but that line has not been updated or places anywhere either, so this is the only way to keep you informed. I'd rather discuss this with Jonno instead of in public, but I have no choice I realized.

So, please use your own material or other material for now because things are not working the way they should right now.

Besides that, changes are in progress so there is no def version yet.
What's in the archive isn't nessicarily usable.

You might hire an artist for new images if you like to sell them, but you cannot use my drawings at the moment.

A thing I want to be added is my name on all images on the advances. I think that's the least I can demand when i see no $ for all the work I've done. Especially when another person is making money from it. Can't you see what I mean?

Sorry 'bout this.

Thanks for the fast replies, and sorry for the mess I've caused ;). I found a good deal on ebay, and if I don't get it, I'll print the game.

I mostly need to know if the new calamities are usable? Or do I have to get an artist for those too?

What about my counters that you are revising? Will I be able to print those? I've open sourced the 300dpi images, but I sent you all the 600dpi originals, drafts, and historical artwork I had on it. To not be able to print the revised counters would be a real problem for me now that I've given you EVERYTHING I have.

Please let me know about these two items.

And the $$$ made on this stuff are printing related, not art related. There is a lot of labor involved with printing, laminating, gluing, cutting, etc. To think that I'm making $$$ on the artwork is just not right. If the images were computer randomized pixels that I printed, there would still be all the effort I just mentioned. I'm not going to do that for nothing, but I will give away the art I created as a donation to this project.

As goes for drawing.

Sorry Craig, right now you cannot use my drawings for calamities as well as the advances.

About the tokens. That's another deal apart from this project.
I don't misuse your work as I'm doing nothing with it.

Right now neither your nor my tokens are used for this project.
