Post Last(?) draft of 2.10 rules
Well, probably not the last one, but no major changes will be done from now on.
Perhaps some renaming, and the usual assortment of error corrections, but anything major will have to wait for 2.11.
We are still missing the new civilization cards, but Flo de Haan is starting to get close.

This is the version I have printed and will use at GothCon XXXII.

A short list of changes since last draft:

* New calamity cards with layout and illustrations by Flo de Haan
* Slightly tweaked advances texts
* Renamed Kush to Kushan
* Somewhat streamlined §24 (Calamity Resolution) and §29 (Calamities). [1]
* The rule that a player with no cities is immune to Regression has been removed. [2]

All the updated files are to be found in the Archive, but are also listed here for your convenience.
Please do check them out and tell me of any errors you find! Suggestions and opinions are also welcome.

[1] While generally not changing the effects of the calamities, some corner cases have been changed for the sake of consistency.
[2] This was a leftover since Regression worked by altering the Movement of Succession Markers phase rather than moving the marker during the calamity phase, and was intended to make sure that you didn't move backwards both due to Regression and due to having no cities. However, as you might both gain and loose cities between the resolution of Regression and the Movement of Succession Markers phase, this don't work any longer, and might just as well be removed.

Don;t know where to put this, but I do it here.

The quickchart says "Naval Warfare" is 60 where it should be 160.

McBeth already told me a few days agoo, and it is already fixed in the draft linked to above.

Post New Civilization cards
Flo de Haan is finished with his new civilization cards, and they have been uploaded to the archive.

Warning: The zip file with psd files are 2.2GB large. I'll see what I can do about that for a later revision.
If you just want to look at the images, please download the png version instead!

Well, I uploaded just all layered psd files for each seperate card.
these are 40 Mb for front and 25 for back.

Ofcourse seperated png-files are smaller

Just 6 front and 6 back printsheets in png will do I guess.

I've seen 3 different tradecards-backs

one with the red avalon Hill logo, one with blue, and one with black.

What's the use of this?

The trade cards back with the blue and red AH logo are for legacy use only.
Once upon a time (before my time) the back was different on cards in the Eastern and Western trade card bocks. We abandoned this idea, as it didn't work out properly when playing with only one trade card block, as well as giving way too many clues about the third card in some situations.

The trade card back with the black AH logo is for use with versions <=2.09.
This is the one included in the official version you can download from the commodities page.

For 2.10 there is yet another trade card back, featuring the new CivProject logo rather than the AH one.
This is the one included in this draft.

So we can forget the red and blues

reminds me of "civilization" where the calamities had red backs.

I think gaining cities after resolving Regression isn't possible, since only Piracy resolves after Regression. But is is a good point, where I don't directly know how to solve this.

Johannes, what about:

Politics, Monotheism and Universal Doctrine?
Those can gain you cities after the resolution of Regression and before altering the AST.

Post Re: New Civilization cards
Flo de Haan has updated the flavour texts at the back of the cards, and I've reduced the file size of the fronts of the cards somewhat. Each of the 51 cards contained each of the 51 drawings, though only one was visible. That was a waste of 600MB!

I've also compressed the psd files with 7z rather than the usual pkzip, saving an additional 200MB. In case your favourite file manager can't handle that, you'll have to install one that does. The official 7-Zip File Manager will most likely do the job.

The file is still 1.4GB, so in case you aren't going to do any editing I'd still recommend downloading the png version...

Yep

I've done nothing to decrease filesize, as that was no issue to me, as long as they were on my harddisk only. But as you want to share those files, some layers can be removed. That's so.

(the way I worked: I create a base-file containing all images and saved it to 51 seperated files. all I had to do was make a certain layer visible. Just because that's quicker than looking for a certain image an import that single file into the specific card-file, and repeat this 50 times for every new card.)

What is the difference between "marked," "unmarked" and "poker" card varieties?

Well

Marked means that you are using hte cards-set that has "east" or "west" symbols printed on the cards. You are using this from 12 up players.

Poker set means that you are using the cards printed on a size of poker cards. Some people prefer these.

Look at the download and archive section for the varieties.

the titles don't mean much, and downloading & opening them all to see is time consuming.

The graphics are excellent -- but it costs a lot of money in ink to print all that out. Are there versions with a plain white background color, keeping graphics to a minimum?
