I have read that the core rule book 2.09 and the map are not of the same release. The map is to be updated. Are the two compatible as is? Should I construct or wait?
Martin's Mapboard is updated for 2.09. Mark's Mapboard Redux is not yet updated with the changed Hatti A.S.T. It's also missing a pop-marker in one area in Hellas (should be a one), and contains a few purely graphical goofs. We are currently waiting for Mark to fix it, and he seems to be a very busy man.
If you intended to print Martin's Mapboard there is no reason to wait. If you intended to print Mark's Mapboard Redux it might be advisable to wait, unless you are planing to play on it very soon, in which case you can do some "quick'n'dirty" edits to fix the AST and pop marker before printing (I did that for my game at LinCon 2007 a few weeks ago).

I was considering constructing the board on 4-6 wood/Plexiglas panels so they are rigid, and transportable. Has this been attempted or has the idea been vetoed for reasons I am unaware of? I understand there is a weight issue, but I'll construct a case for the whole game.
Wooden panels has been proposed before, and other than the weight issue, and production difficulties (you can't exactly put a piece of wood in the printer) there has been no objections. So if those problems don't bother you, go ahead.

Lastly, would you like me to post the construction process? You've done all the hard work, it is the least I can do in support of your efforts should you like to have pictures from start to finish.
If you have pictures, I'd be interested in seeing them.
