Post First draft of 2.10 for proofreading
Hi everyone.

I've now prepared the first draft for 2.10. It was originally intended to be just a small update, but I ended up being too inspired by Floo's job with the Advances to stop myself.

There is only two changes to the rules, and both are minor.
  • The "Civilization Cards Acquisition and the Return of Excess Commodity Cards" phase was split into two.
The only difference on the game is that if someone insists on playing it in the proper order, everyone purchases civilization cards before anyone starts to throw away excess commodity cards. I don't expect that to happen very often, but it made the rules much cleaner on some points (such as Trade Routes).
  • "Attacking", in the context of Diplomacy and Cultural Ascendancy, has been redefined to "Attacking {a city, units} is defined as moving tokens into an area containing {a city, units} in enough force that conflict would occur.".
Note the "in enough force that conflict would occur", which was previously missing.

Other than that, it's only textual changes in the Core Rulebook, but there is quite a few of those:
  • Added a table of contents.
  • Introduced the use of multiple dots in paragraph numbers in the Core Rulebook. This is consistent with the use in the Optional Rulebook and Scenario Handbook.
  • Rewrote the section on map areas and borders, including a proper definition of "adjacent".
  • Cleaned up all uses of adjacent, neighbouring, bordering etc, using the new definition of adjacent. This clarified a few corner cases that previously was open for interpretation.
  • Reordered the descriptions of the components, so that no table had to span multiple pages.
  • Updated the commodity card table to include all information necessary to set up a game of any number of players, and rewrote §10.3 to utilize it.
  • Updated the table for The Phases (§12.1) to use four columns.
  • Renamed some phases, to get more consistent names.
  • Clarified the rules pertaining to order of casualties in conflict.
  • Clarified what happens if the primary victim and a potential beneficiary of civil war ties for most unit points in stock.
  • Clarified the "leave one token" rule of Epidemic.
  • Renamed Astronomy to Astronavigation.
  • Move the definition of the special abilities to the special abilities phase. Thus §30 (Civilization Cards) isn't normative for any civilization card attributes any longer. (Though it's still normative for credits and similar stuff).
  • Synchronized §30 (Civilization Cards) with the new quick chart (see below).

Other than the core rulebook, some other components have changed:

  • Optional Rulebook
    • Tabular format of the unique cultures variant
    • Some textual clean-up of the unique cultures variant
  • Advances Quick Chart:
    • All texts are updated with the new attributes texts Flo and Gerart has worked on for the cards.
    • The new name for Astronavigation.
  • Advances Credits Quick Chart / Credits Calculator:
    • The new name for Astronavigation.
  • Calamities Quick Chart:
    • Rewrote the Civil War text to be more consistent with the core rulebook textual change from 2.09
  • The Counters
    • New barbarian tokens and pirate cities, drawn by Flo.

Note: The advances quick chart contains the recorded changes from the texts proposed by Flo and Gerart. That will ofcourse be removed from the final version...

All the components are downloadable from the Archive:

Post Branding
Oh, and if no one protests I'll use my "Civilization: The Expansion Project - Refreshed" branding proposal for 2.10, beginning with the next draft (no renaming just yet though). I would, however, very much like some more comments in that thread first. Someone (Flo?) might yet come up with a better proposal.

And, I'm back. I just now (I know, stupid) realized that I wasn't logged in on the forum, and so not seeing updates. It is amazing the work you and Flo have done to keep this alive. I'm working on getting caught up, and should have input for you in the next couple days. In the meantime, are there any changes on the map I should be aware of?

No, the map hasn't been touched since 2.09.
