New East and West Mapboard
We are thinking about creating a new mapboard that's more easily divided into East and West.
The idea is to get a map in two (or four) pieces where the full West part is on one part and the full East part is on another. Whenever you play West or East only you remove the other part off of the table.
Also this makes it possible to regard the game as a two-level expansion: West for 9 players, East for 9 players and the full for 18 players.
This makes is more easily for people to step in and take up only half of the project.
Also we are removing the AST and tradcardstack off of the map. We might create the exact AST and stacks on a seperate piece of cardboard to put on top of it. This way you can remove it from the table if needed.
More likely we are thinking of adjusting the map a little to create a better division. this takes away the room for these two part but creates more playing space.
A fourth idea is to change some colors. first is to remove black and maybe white as playing colors. So that these colors apply only to the barbarian and pirate tokens.
(ofcourse this color change will apply to the changed tokens as well and the player mats. of these).
A fifth is to remove the rivers as they might be misleading. We keep the area names though as they are needed to refer to a certain area.
A sixth is to keep the starting area names equal to any area name and place an additional starting area marker for each nation.
So these are the goals
So as a list:
- One (or two) piece(s) will contain West and One (or two) piece(s) will contain East.
- Removal of excess details such as AST and tradcards. (to make this seperate pieces to put anywhere you want)
- Sligthly adjust it to fit better on both parts.
- Change some colors
- Remove rivers
- Change starting position markers' design.
Our starting point is Martin's mapboard (Left). Mark mapboard (Right) might look great at first glance, but you also have to think about playability and printability.
In the end it might be a minor thing to change a layer to two to create another look.
Does anyone have some ideas,
Or maybe more points to take up in change?
Does anyone know an error on this map?
