Just thought I´d write down the color schemes for all the colors used for civs on the new up-and-coming map/ast, so that the counter-people has something to work with (I´d be glad to change any of these colors if there are any objections):
Crete 95-182-87 (on black text/figure) Arabia 190-80-156 (on black text/figure) Illyria 233-229-21 (on black text/figure) Assyria 72-152-197 (on black text/figure) Thrace 29-97-68 (on white text/figure) Chorasmia 82-82-82 (on white text/figure) Carthage 138-69-46 (on white text/figure) Rome 235-28-36 (on black text/figure) Iberia 173-173-173 (on black text/figure) Dravidia 29-97-68 (on black text/figure) Babylon 114-190-195 (on black text/figure) Maurya 184-31-35 (on white text/figure) Kushan 147-37-138 (on white text/figure) Hatti 242-131-32 (on white text/figure) Nubia 72-90-160 (on black text/figure) Indus 242-117-117 (on black text/figure) Persia 0-0-0 (on white text/figure) Egypt 208-163-139 (on black text/figure)
[Just for completeness; Flood plain green 14-51-51 Dark terrain green 20-93-92 Light terrain green 91-163-92 Terrain yellow 249-207-92 Background color 196-142-36 Ocean water color is the same as Assyria. Coastal water color is the same as Babylon. 0 pop is black on Nubia. 1 pop is Illyria on black. 2 pop is black on Illyria. 3 pop is black on Rome. 4 pop is black on Hatti. 5 pop is black on Arabia.]
All colors are within the CMYK gamut and should look the same printed as it does on the screen, but what do I know...

Thanks!
I take it these are Cyan-Magenta-Yellow values and not Red-Green-Blue? Am I correct?

Nope, Aron, I cheated somewhat, it was simpler for me to just express the rgb-values...but that shouldn´t be a problem. If it is, I can post the CMYK-values as well...

No problem, I'll have Photoshop translate for me when needed.

As I was allowed a sneak peak, I must agree, the map is beautiful. Hopefully the data we get from the Apollo 18 play test can help balance things out some
BTW, thanks for the color values.

Not a change to the counter-colors, but well to the map; I´ve had to separate whe colors av Assyria and Ocean Water. Assyria stays the same, but I´m going to do the following:
Ocean water color 73-175-187
which is a subtle but neccecary change. I think I´ll stay with using the same color for Babylon and the Coastal Water, though, if nobody objects for inconsistency. Anyone that DO object better have a suggestion for Coastal Water though...

Almost, all but ocean are correct. The RGB-equivalent of ocean is R22, G127, B184.
In addition, Sozli has suggested R32 G51 B255 for ocean, which is a nice, really dark rich blue which unfortunately is outside CMYK gamut. A similar color within gamut is R36 G47 B146. Furthermore, I would like to improve on Sozlis suggestion by suggesting R0 G181 B212 for coast. It is as light as the previous coastal color, but it matches Sozlis ocean color better. Besides, the current coastal color is also the same color designated for Babylon, and it would be a good thing if Babylon had a color for itself.
The counters seem to have other colors, though.
As always, if anyone has the pantone color codes for the counters and/or game board please let us know, it would make life much easier for us...

Imo the new ocean (36 47 146) and coastal (0 181 212) colors looks great on the map, much better than the current ones. Please do use them in the next beta map (and see what Velusion has to say). However, with this change you'd have to do something about the game title in the upper left corner... martin wrote: The counters seem to have other colors, though.
I think the counters are still using the colors from the previous (1.x) mapboard. They was supposed to change with the update, but I suppose Velusion forgot.

Ahh, crap. Okay. I'll get my version of the counter updated with the right colors. I asked about the official colors because I've been working on the MesoAmerica, and Peters? Crete Map, and getting the colors to match would be good Jeff

Another question for you Martin: What is the semi-official RGB colors of the new civs in the beta map?

Celts use old Thrace. Maurya use old Chorasmia. Parthia use old Maurya.
Actually, before next beta, the new map will need some kind of playtesting or approval, at least in the Persia/Iran area.

OK, Then I'll print the current map and try to get my friends to agree on a tesstplay in about two weeks time. However, I'm going to tell you an story first: I have for a long time refused installing Windows on my PC, and have used GIMP on linux instead of Photoshop. It does work verry well, but it isn't good at reading pdf files. To start with, my 1.5GB memory isn't enough to open the map in 300dpi, and in addition it got the colors alll wrong! Now I gave up and installed Windows on a different harddrive, my goal to install Adobe Photoshop 7.0 so I could get the correct colors from a pdf created with Adobe Illustrator. Gues my supprise when the trick did not work! I got different collors than GIMP, but still not the one listed here. I have now used Acrobat Reader 7.0, Photoshop 7.0, Gimp and XPDF to open the draft map, and none of them gives me the correct colors! Acrobat Reader and Photoshop does however give me the same wrong colors, while GIMP and XPDF gives me two different wrong colors. Now I was pissed, and went hunting for a new alternative. I went back to my linux installation and started to look for an Illustratior replacement, seeing that when Photoshop doesn't work, why shoult a photoshop replacement (ie. GIMP) and when Acrobat Reader doesn't work, why should an Acrobat Reader replacement (ie. XPDF)? After some googling I found Inkscape that was supposed to read illustrator *.ai files. So I installed it and hoped to get it to open the Illustrator pdf. That did not work, Incscape can only open Illustrator .ia files as well as SVG (Scalable Vector Grafics, the Open Standard format). Martin: Is there no way you could save the map in any other format that might keep the colors? Either png 300dpi directly or something Incscape can read (svg or ia, svg preferably) would be nice. Please...
