Hey folks, I just calculated how much it would cost to produce all the stuff with professional material, e.g. 108 cardbards 267x180 mm with foil for the map, 918 cards 91x59 mm for civilization and 351 cards 67,5x43,5 mm for trade goods, 180 wooden city pieces, 1080 wooden counter pieces, 90 wooden ship pieces, etc. The whole lot would cost somewhat more than 200 €, even when you produce yourself. But it would be nice  .

Tokens and ships basically must be cardboard, or you couldn't stack them, and I've yet to hear any other suggestion on how to fit 4 ships and 17 tokens (this is taken from a real life encounter) on the island of Lemnos (probably the smallest area on the board, north of the Aegian Sea). |

Well, wooden disc tokens of 25x6 mm can be stacked very well. |

OK, I thought you meant wooden figurines (which can't be stacked). If you means just plain wooden discs, what is the effective difference compared to cardboard? The paintjob would cover any wooden structure, at least on the front. Unless you intend to use wooden backgrounds, rather than painted, in which case the difference between the different civs would be to low imho. |

What is the difference between good, metal core poker chips and cheap full plastic ones? The handling. I might be wrong, but I think, apart from looking more noble, wooden pieces offer more grip. Of course, a wooden board or one with felt on the surface would make it even more deluxe. By the way: a wooden figurine would be hard to turn over and look like an amphore, wouldn't it? But I already spotted the problem: I can only get wooden discs in twelve colours: red, yellow, blue, green, purple, orange, black, white, gray, pink, brown and nature. |

Well, perhaps. I imagine they would be heavier than paper, which I don't think would be such a bad thing.
And a full wooden mapbord, I'd love it ... as long as I got someone else to carry it

Well, you could make a 3d model set up on a flake board, as long as you have a car big enough to carry around. But then you risk to be confused with a model train freak or table top gamer. But if I had a workshop and tools, that would be a great challenge.
