I have been reading the talk about Asia with some interest. I have majored in Studies of Ancient South East Asia (and other societies) and found the map excellent. I would make one change, On the island of Sumatra I would shift Srivijaya to Palembang(The location of the original Srivijaya). I would make the island have a low pop space(s) all along the western (mountainous) coast of this island. Srivijaya perhaps the most successful of these Indianised trading kingdoms had trouble controlling this part of the island. I would also like to see Aceh on the north of Sumatra. (by 1500 a Turkish embassy was established here). I have designed my own map for sometime now but nothing like the maps I have seen here. A great way to read a map of SE Asia in ancient times is to colour the sea green and land blue as the major transport routes were coastal and riverine! Keep up the good work Blob (Australia) |
