I've been having a problem on the forum for the last year and have not been able to figure out how to fix it. Bascially once I type in my user name and password in the upper right hand corner it signs me in and then, when the page refreshes, it is like I have never logged in. I can only post topics by manually typing in my username/password every time. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, do you still have it? I'm finally annoyed enough to do something about it. |

It has always worked for me. I'm currently using Firefox 1.5, but I have also successfully logged in to the civproject forums using Firefox 0.6 - 1.0, Mozilla 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 & 1.7 and IE 5.5 & 6.0. However, I just tried Opera 6.0, Konqueror 3.5 and Links 2.1 just to test, and no one of them worked. So everyone having this problem, can you please include information on the browser you are using. I have no clue whatsoever to the cause of the problem, but if anyone has any idea, I'm open for sugestions. |

Hi there, I'm using the latest IE, and had that problem when I initially tried to sign in. I had opened a new window in the process of registering, which didn't have the side bar of links. When I tried to sign in using that window, I encountered the same problem you are having, but when I closed it and tried logging in with the initial window it worked just fine (and has ever since). On a different note, have you tried logging in, and then "Shift-Refreshing" the page? It might be worth a try... Regards, Redgar Alea iacta est! (But not in Advanced Civ...) |

Using IE 6.0 with "medium" privacy settings, IE blocks the cookie that the forum tries to store on my computer in order to "remember" my login. This happens when I try to access the site using the http://civproject.net/ address. It is blocked because the cookie is stored from address http://67.66.187.69/, which is not matching the civproject.net address in the address bar. Firefox, however, allows it because http://civproject.net/ is just a "layer" atop the real address of http://67.66.187.69/. So I guess the browsers just have a different default security/privacy policy on what cookies to count as "foreign address cookies", and thus what cookies to block. IF this is the same problem that you're experiencing, it can be fixed by: 1. Accessing this site by URL http://67.66.187.69/civproject/ instead of http://civproject.net/ while using IE (i.e. http://67.66.187.69/civproject/ must actually appear in the address bar). 2. Adding 67.66.187.69 to your "always allow cookies from this host" list in IE (for example by clicking the small "cookie blocked"-icon (the eye with the stop sign in the lower right corner) after trying to log in, then clicking "Settings...", then "Sites...", then add it). 3. Reducing your privacy slider setting in the Internet Options of IE, so that it allows the forum's cookies. 4. Use Firefox? |

As per the site migration this shouldn't be an issue any longer. Logging in through http://67.66.187.69/civproject/ will not help, as the forum isn't hosted at 67.66.187.69 any longer, but actually on http://www.civproject.net If you are using the temporary address http://www.civproject.eu I used while http://www.civproject.net was being transfered from Velusion to me, you might encounter the same problem. If you do, please switch to http://www.civproject.net |
