Introduction
Welcome to CivProject.net!
This humble project once began as a personal pet project of a single person, known as Velusion, has over the last few years evolved into a multinational comunity unitied in the desire to to further improve one of the best boardgames that has ever been available in stores. I'm proud to be part of this comunity, and honored to be allowed to lead it. Old and new, I bid you welcome. See you in the forum!

This site is devoted to my ongoing pursuit of perfecting an extensive expansion for an already great game: Advanced Civilization™ by Avalon Hill®. I'm hoping to get the views and opinions of both experienced and beginner players in my search for perfection. This website is very simple, with very little pretty graphics. I have built quite a few nice looking websites in my time, but instead of putting a lot of time and energy into the aesthetic pleasantries of this website I would rather concentrate on the game itself. So please excuse the bland look. Also much of what is on here was borrowed in original form from other Advanced Civ sites. I do try and give credit where credit is due, so please let me know if I missed crediting someone for their work. Most of the latest updates take place in the forums, so make sure and check there before printing anything up.

Playing the game

Playing the game.
The Goal
The goal of CivProject.net is to create a professional-looking game that can entertain large groups of players during conventions and other events. The end product will look as if it came out of a box and was not homemade. It will extend the original game to allow new and different strategies to develop without crippling or crimping the current favored ones. The main rules is kept intact but the extended game gives people more options on how to develop their own ancient empire.
Quick Summary of Changes
Civilization: The Expansion Project comes with two major changes compared to Advanced Civilization™, which can be used individually, but are meant to be used together. These are:
- More Players! - Civilization: The Expansion Project features a larger map covering the Iberian pensulia to the Indian subcontinent and can be played with five to eighteen players.
- New Advancements and Calamities! - Civilization: The Expansion Project comes with 51 advancements and 24 calamities.
In addition Civilization: The Expansion Project also features:
-
Historically Accurate Starting Locations In order to add a little more variety the starting
locations has been changed to be more historically accurate and hopefully encourage people to try many
different types of opening moves.
This means that players do not start on the edges of the board but in their native homelands. This of course modifies (though not dramatically) many opening strategies and some calamities such as Barbarian Hordes. - A revised rulebook! Even though the basic rules to the game have NOT changed and you likely could play the entire game with just the new advancements and commodities the expansion project comes with a complete and revised rulebook.
